Each year more than 165,400 students in grades 6-8 enter the VFW’s Patriot’s Pen youth essay contest for a chance to win their share of more than $1.4 million in state and national awards.

Conducted nationwide, this VFW-sponsored youth essay competition gives 6th-, 7th– and 8th grade students an opportunity to write essays expressing their views on an annual patriotic theme.  

The 2021-2022 Patriot Pen theme was: “How Can I Be a Good American?”

VFW Department of California – Patriot Pen – 2nd Runner up
