![]() | Each year, the Veterans of Foreign Wars selects elementary, middle, and high school teachers to participate in the Smart/Maher VFW National Citizenship Education Teacher program. These certified/licensed elementary, junior high and high school teachers teach and promote America’s history, traditions and citizenship education effectively. All current certified/licensed teachers in grades K-12 are eligible. Previous national VFW winners are ineligible. Nominations can be submitted by themselves, fellow teachers, supervisors, family members or other interested individuals. Jessica Del Angel Sponsored by VFW Post 3173 El Cerrito Middle School | Dept of CA – The annual Teacher of the Year award is given by the VFW to recognize the nation’s top certified/licensed educators who teach and promote America’s history, traditions, and citizenship. Jessica hosts the “El Cerrito Middle School Salutes Our Veterans” event annually in which students connect with local veterans to learn about their experiences. Jessica has also implemented the Medal of Honor Character Development Program to teach courage, commitment, integrity, sacrifice, citizenship, and patriotism to her students. |
